Umbrella Coverage
Umbrella coverage. We’ve all heard about it, but what is it exactly, and how does it work?
Umbrella liability policy will cover you over and above liability coverage in your other policies.
Homeowners insurance generally offers $300,000 in personal liability protection. Auto liability policies generally offer between $300,000 and $500,000.
The umbrella policy gives you maximum protection at minimum rates.
How it works
Let’s say you’re driving across town and are running behind. You’re heading into the sun and run a red light, colliding with another vehicle. The other driver is severely injured and sues for damages. Your auto liability pays first, but medical damages can easily top the $300,000 limit most people carry.
Your umbrella policy would cover the remainder, up to its limit, including associated legal fees.
How much is enough?
Determining the amount of coverage is a personal decision. But we can help you determine what’s right for you.
As in most insurance policies, coverage is defined not by what is covered, but what is not covered. In umbrella policies, if it’s not excluded, it’s covered. You should always be aware of the common exclusions that do exist, however.
So check into this simple, affordable coverage that can provide you with a financial safety net.
